Pennsylvania Issuing Automatic $100 Energy Bill Credits This Summer

As hot summer temperatures lead to higher electricity bills, roughly 193,000 Pennsylvania households will receive an extra $100 credit toward their energy accounts.

However, there is no new application for this money. The state is sending the payment automatically to eligible households based on existing records.

Who Qualifies for the $100 Benefit?

To receive this one-time $100 credit, a household must meet both of the following requirements:

• Previous Assistance: The household received a cash grant from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) during the 2025–2026 season.
• Vulnerable Household Member: At least one person living in the home meets one of these criteria:
  • Is 60 years or older
  • Is a child under 6 years old
  • Has a disability

How the Payment Works

• Automatic Distribution: Eligible residents do not need to submit a new application, call county assistance offices, or request funds from their utility companies.
• Direct Credit: The money is sent directly to the utility company or fuel vendor that received the original LIHEAP grant, where it will appear as an account credit. If sent to an electric company, it can help lower summer cooling bills.
• No Direct Cash or Checks: Recipients will not receive a paper check or bank transfer.
• One Payment Per Household: Qualifying households receive a single $100 credit regardless of how many eligible family members live in the home.

• Payment Distribution: Distributions began processing through the state treasury on July 29, 2026.
• Official Notices: The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is mailing official confirmation letters to all qualifying households.
• Upcoming Season: Receiving this extra $100 will not reduce or affect a family's eligibility for the upcoming 2026–2027 LIHEAP season.
