State Stimulus Checks and Tax Rebates in 2026: Is Your State Sending You Extra Cash?
Here is a look at the major state-level programs distributing tax relief and rebates across the country.
1. Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend
Eligible Alaskans are receiving $1,200 total in 2026, combining a $1,000 base dividend with a $200 energy-relief supplement.
According to data from the Alaska Department of Revenue, distributions begin October 1 for direct-deposit filers, with a second payout wave following on October 22.
2. Colorado TABOR Refunds
Colorado residents are receiving TABOR "Cash Back" payments funded through state revenue surpluses.
These payments are sent out automatically via direct deposit or check to eligible state income tax filers, though future payouts may decrease as state revenue growth normalizes.
3. Georgia Tax Refunds
Georgia is delivering automated tax rebates authorized under House Bill 1000 to residents who filed their 2024 and 2025 income tax returns.
Single filers receive up to $250, while married couples filing jointly can receive up to $500 depending on their total state tax liability.
4. Michigan Working Families Tax Credit
Michigan expanded its Working Families Tax Credit to 15%, providing eligible working families with an average benefit of $550 to over $800.
State treasury officials have fully integrated this expanded credit into the standard tax system, so taxpayers automatically receive the funds alongside their annual state tax refund.
5. New Jersey Property Tax Relief
New Jersey is distributing its annual ANCHOR program payments, offering up to $6,500 in total property tax relief depending on age, income, and homeownership status.
Renters and homeowners who previously applied usually receive these direct deposits or checks automatically, while new applicants have until November 2 to file.
6. New York Child and STAR Credits
New York's direct inflation relief checks have wrapped up, but eligible residents still receive ongoing support through the expanded Empire State Child Credit and the STAR program.
According to state tax estimates, the Empire State Child Credit provides up to $1,000 per qualifying child under 4, while the STAR program delivers roughly $290 to $650 in school property tax savings.
7. Oregon "Kicker" Tax Credit
Oregon taxpayers can claim the state's signature "kicker" credit on their state income tax returns filed this year.
Calculated at 9.863% of a taxpayer's previous state tax liability, this credit acts to directly boost tax refunds or offset owed state taxes.
8. Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebates
Pennsylvania expanded its Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, raising the maximum rebate to $1,000 and boosting the eligibility income cap to $48,110 for qualifying seniors and disabled residents.
The state also introduced the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, matching 10% of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit to deliver up to $805 automatically upon filing.
