Five U.S. Cities Offering Cash Incentives to Attract New Residents

Five cities across the country are willing to pay you to move there. Due to population aging and declining birthrates, these places are taking bold steps to bring in new residents. They hope to boost local business and community growth by making such offers.

The dream of living in the US could be more attainable with these offers that include not just affordable housing, but also cold hard cash.

Let's take a look at the cities where this dream can turn into a reality and how you can apply to become a new resident with benefits.

Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa sits alongside the Arkansas River and offers a financial incentive through the Tulsa Remote program. If you're a remote worker, Tulsa is willing to offer up to $10,000 to make the move.

They'll also help you find a place to live and give you a free three-year membership to local coworking spaces. To be eligible, you should:
  • Plan to relocate to Tulsa within the next 12 months.
  • Work remotely for a company based outside of Oklahoma.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have the legal ability to work in the US.

Florence and Sheffield, Alabama

The Remote Shoals program here is offering up to $10,000 for new residents who earn over $52,000 annually. This offer extends to a few other nearby cities as well. To qualify, you must:
  • Earn at least $52,000 per year.
  • Be able to move within six months.
  • Work remotely for a company based outside of Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
  • Be over 18 years old.

Newton, Iowa

Newton is the largest city in Jasper County, and it's wooing new residents who buy a home worth at least $190,000 with a sweet $10,000 incentive through the Newton Housing Initiative program.

Here's what's required:
  • You get the incentive when you finish the permanent financing of your home.
  • Your new home must be completed and certified for occupancy.
  • Rental properties are not eligible for this incentive.

Topeka, Kansas

In the capital city of Kansas, the Choose Topeka program tempts new residents with up to $15,000 if they secure a full-time job and buy a house in the area. If interested, you should:
  • Relocate to Topeka for a full-time job.
  • Buy or rent a house within a year of your move.
  • Answer a survey after living there for a year.
  • Join a special program about living in Topeka.
  • Make sure your employer applies before you move.

Arkansas

Several cities in Arkansas, including Fayetteville and Bentonville, are offering up to $10,000 through the Life Works Here program to attract new residents who can add energy to their communities.

To apply, you must:
  • Land a full-time job within the region.
  • Be under 24 years old.

These unique incentives are part of a growing trend to rejuvenate cities across the United States. If you're looking for a new place to call home and want to pocket some extra cash, one of these programs might just be the ticket you need.
