Android Users Could Get Money From $135 Million Settlement
A large legal settlement worth $135 million may put cash in the pockets of millions of Android phone users across the country.
What Happened?
A lawsuit claimed that Android phones were sending data without asking users first. This may have used up people's paid phone data plans.
The lawsuit said this happened even when phones were not being actively used or when apps were closed.
Google did not admit to doing anything wrong, but the company agreed to pay $135 million to settle the case.
Who Can Get Money?
You may qualify if you:
- Live in the United States
- Used an Android phone to go online using a cellular data plan
- Did so anytime since November 12, 2017
You do not need to prove you were harmed. You just need to meet these basic requirements.
Note: Some people may not be eligible, especially those who were part of a similar lawsuit in California.
How Much Money Will People Get?
Because so many people may qualify, individual payments are expected to be small. Most people will likely receive between $1 and $1.50.
However, payments could go up to $100 depending on how many people file claims.
How to Claim Your Money
- Check your email or mailbox for a notice with your ID and confirmation code
- Visit the official settlement website
- Choose how you want to receive your payment
You do not need to fill out a detailed claim form, but you must select a payment method to get your money.
Important Dates
- May 29 – Last day to opt out or object to the settlement
- June 23 – Court hearing for final approval
If the court approves the settlement, payments will be sent out after that date.
