Comcast Data Breach Settlement: What You Need to Know
Comcast is paying $117.5 million to settle a lawsuit related to a data breach that happened in October 2023. Hackers accessed Comcast's systems between October 16 and October 19, 2023. The company told the public about the breach in December 2023.
The lawsuit is called Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC. While Comcast has not admitted to doing anything wrong, the company agreed to settle the case.
What Information Was Stolen?
The hackers may have accessed personal details, including:
- Usernames and passwords
- Contact information
- Dates of birth
- Partial Social Security numbers
Who Can File a Claim?
Not all Comcast or Xfinity customers qualify. You are eligible if:
- You received a notice from Comcast around December 18, 2023, stating that your personal information may have been exposed.
About 31.7 million customers were notified after the breach and may be able to file a claim.
If you received a settlement notice recently, it should include a class member ID. You will need this ID to file your claim. If you cannot find your ID, you can contact the settlement administrator to look it up using your Comcast account information.
How Much Money Can You Get?
You have a few options:

Reimbursement for expenses – If you lost money because of the breach, you can claim up to $10,000. You will need to provide proof, such as bank statements, credit card statements, receipts, or phone records.

Payment for your time – You can claim up to 5 hours of lost time at $30 per hour (up to $150 total).

Cash payment – If you do not have documented losses, you can receive an estimated $50. This amount may change based on how many people file claims and how much goes toward legal and administrative fees.

Identity protection services – All eligible customers will automatically receive identity defense and restoration services once the settlement is finalized.
How to File a Claim
You can submit your claim online or by mail. The deadline is August 14, 2026.
What Happens Next?
A court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for July 7, 2026. Payments will be sent out after the court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved.
